Jesus came to this earth to offer total freedom to all who are controlled by sin and enslaved under the dominion of the devil. He said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to…proclaim freedom to the captives...” Jesus lived his life in total freedom from sin and the devil. He never once yielded His allegiance to the enemy.

Jesus offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the entire world and through His death and resurrection, He opened the way of freedom for all who would sincerely follow him. The process of experiencing the freedom that Jesus came to bring begins with a total new birth through the work of the Holy Spirit.

When a person hears and believes the awesome message of how Jesus won the victory over sin and death and submits their life to Him as their King, the Holy Spirit comes to live His life in the depth of their heart. Through the expression of being immersed in water, the new follower of Jesus dies to all that once condemned and enslaved them and begins a new life of being His disciple. The process of following Jesus as His disciple is the path to true freedom from the slavery of sin.

A disciple is a devoted student of Jesus with a sincere desire to be just like Him. The life of a disciple is a life of humble learning, dedicated obedience, and total transformation. Sadly, very few people who call themselves “Christians” in our day, are actually what Jesus would call “disciples”. In Jesus’ time, He didn’t call anyone “Christian”, but rather referred to any who would follow Him as “disciples”.

Furthermore, even among those that referred to themselves as disciples, according to Jesus’ definition, there were very few that actually were. Many times, Jesus would give very serious and radical teachings to those that were following Him, in order to clearly define what He had in mind for those that would call themselves His disciples. One time He said to those that believed in Him, “If you continue in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Jesus went on to define the freedom He was talking about with the words, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin… Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

True discipleship, according to Jesus, is a process of His follower progressively applying His teachings to their life which, in turn, leads to freedom from sin.

Our desire is to partner with the Holy Spirit in the transformation process of your life as a disciple. We want to look seriously at the teachings of Jesus with you and sincerely apply our hearts, minds, and lives to what He is saying. Let’s continue together to go deeper into the teachings of Jesus so that we might be His disciples indeed! Then we too will know the truth, and the truth will make us free!
